Good Evening lovelies,
Hope you enjoyed Tuesday’s post about Friendship. Let me and Ilinca know if you have ever experienced anything like this or how you have handled the situation. But moving on…
Today I am going to talk about *drum roll*...The Body Shop Fresh Nudes Foundation. I had used Body Shops’ Extra Virgin liquid foundation a few years back, but at the time they had a limited shade range and the foundation itself had a light coverage, not ideal when you have scarring.
So this time I thought let me give their new foundation a try, and as I have combination skin, I try to go for water-based foundations. The Fresh Nudes foundation comes in a varied 16 shades, and is enriched with Rose water and Aloe Vera. The claims of the product are that it provides ‘up 24 hour moisturisation’, ‘semi-matte finish’ and ‘light to medium coverage’.
For starters, like most of the time I bought the shade lighter than what I had been matched to (does anyone else feel my pain?!). The shade I am using right now is 026 Fiji Sand. I will insert a picture here so you can see what the shade looks like in comparison to other brands I have used.

Unfortunately the shade is a bit too warm for me, so I have been using one drop of the lightening shade adjusting drops for one pump of the foundation. In terms of the 24h moisturisation claim, I can truly say with hands up that this foundation will keep your foundation looking hydrating and is not drying on the skin either.
In terms of the coverage, I personally felt that it was not great; it does what it says on the bottle and gives you a light to medium coverage with the fresh look. But if you have pigmentation or acne scars then I would recommend you try the foundation as a tester, or use a concealing colour corrector.
Now lets talk about the staying power of the foundation, working in London means that I need to have a foundation that lasts 12 hours plus. Having combination skin, I also need to look for foundations that have a matte finish, can’t be going around flaunting the dewy look with your t zones on the lose. I think it is safe to say that this foundation is probably meant for dry to normal skin (and I don’t tend to wear a primer under my foundation). After a couple of hours of wearing the foundation (I apply foundation around 6:30am) usually by midday, I can see that my t zones getting oily.
By the time its later into the afternoon, I can see that my foundation is looking very cakey around my nose and mouth (my friends will tell you that I SMILE A LOT). The foundation also wipes away easily, which means I end up with patches of foundation rubbed off on my commute home. It’s not a pretty site seeing your foundation breaking down from the oils your skin produces.
To sum it up my thoughts on the foundation are that although it is a nice formula with great shade range, I don’t think it is ideal for individuals with combination to oily skin. But don’t quote me on this, like I have always said every skin is different and you can always try a sample and see how the foundation sits on your skin. And another thing that I want to add is that I didn’t use a press or setting powder when using this foundation, as I found the powder would set into the pores and make the skin look like it had layers of foundation on.
Let me know your thoughts on the foundation if you have used it. I have another question for you all, or have a seed to plant to your thoughts.
What are your thoughts on men wearing foundation? I know when I thought about it at first, I found it strange to think men would wear make up. But you could argue, why can’t they? If women can wear foundations to even skin tones, cover blemishes, or like to wear make up then why can’t men?
What if media and adverts around us were plastered with men holding a foundation? Would men feel like they would have to wear make up to fit in socially? I asked some of my trusty male friends (yes boys I hope you are reading this post now), and I had mixed reviews from them. These are some of things they had said:
“It’s not natural, I don’t see why men would wear it”
“Nah, I wouldn’t wear it. I got more important things to worry about”
“Lots of guys wear foundation, I know a lot of guys who wear concealer”
“Imperfections are there its life, I don’t think I’d care enough to wear foundation”
“If it’s a thought that is seeded since childhood then its very possible”
“It may become a norm in the future to wear makeup, its normal in the film and media industry”
What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know, we would love if you shared your opinions. But that’s it from me this week, and I hope you enjoyed my review on the Fresh Nudes foundation.
See you next week lovelies
