The 'perfect' shade

Hello Baes,

Hope you all are well and looking forward to the weekend! Yes Friday, we see you coming.

I know we always say this - every year and every month - but March is really flying by. Spring is here and summer seems round the corner (it's getting warmer - well for the UK this is warm).

This is the time of year where we focus back on our New Year goals/ resolutions, wanting to get the beach body, changing our diet – I say we, but in fact it’s the society we live in and the media that puts the pressure on us to look “perfect” and “beach body” ready.

Anyways back to the real reason for this post – (sorry this rant has already been covered by the lovely Ilinca so please go have a read). Soo… Let’s not forget in the beauty world spring is time for… drumroll - new make up! Those Fresh and dewy looks, plus peaches and pinks are back to business.

But this is a trend that I dread, because for me it is the time of year where I need to get the press powder out and keep those T-zones at bay. Who needs the dewy mist sprays when your own skin can give you that look for free, hey?! I’m joking! Or just kidding?

Jokes aside, I feel that (and probably many of you feel the same), you constantly have to be in this cycle and keep up with all these trends and make sure you look “on point” every minute of the day.

I have had mild acne (so the professionals say), and the scars that it can leave behind can be horrible. I will touch on this later. Having a light skin complexion meant that everyone could see the scars. I’d love to have that fresh make up look where I’d be wearing no foundation, but a bit of eye make up, a little blush and lipstick. But that wasn’t the case. On top of that - and what was a first world problem for me personally, was that I could not find a shade of foundation that matched my tone; till this date I have been unable to.

Not sure about you, but I would go to a beauty counter, get a foundation shade matched, then come home to look in the mirror or have my family/friends say: “you look orange” or “It’s too pale”. No disrespect to make up artists, their job is not easy, but even with that being said, they don’t know your skin. Let me explain… Every skin type is different and so foundation can oxidise on your skin as it fuses in with the natural oils – lovely bit of body chemistry there. So some foundation shades will appear to be lighter and then blend into your skin and be the perfect shade. DO NOT MATCH FOUNDATION ON YOUR HANDS!

So, for future reference, always try and take a sample home! Especially, if you are going to be paying a big price tag for the foundation.

What I found, surprisingly, was that I could use a CC cream as it was light wear but full coverage at the same time.

I used the combination of L'Oréal CC cream Anti Redness and Bourjois 123 CC cream. This combo gave me the right coverage that I needed, and made my make up look like skin.

I often find myself reaching out for the CC creams if I need to change the tones of my foundations, and now I have found my new love for colour tone changing. It’s the Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops. Don’t worry, I will review this later.

First, let me make a disclaimer. By no means am I selling these products to you all, nor am I being sponsored. This is my honest opinion. As annoying as it is, I often find if your base is good then you could conquer the world - who run the world. Girls! Holla Girlfriends. (Now now, don’t start singing at the top of your lungs!).

The point of this post is to say this: you don’t need a full face of make up to feel beautiful, you don’t need to wear make up to look like a gorgeous woman. We should all feel beautiful and comfortable in our own skin. And you definitely do not need to wear a £100 foundation to make yourself feel better.

And I promise you it is hard, it’s bloody hard to love yourself when you have people pointing out that you have a scar or a little volcano erupting on your cheek! Like, no shizzle, Sherlock! I don’t own a mirror to see that I do have imperfections!

We should be encouraging each other to feel comfortable in our own skin, and not to use make up to cover up. We all feel and go through similar situations. Let’s boost each other’s confidence and enhance our beauty with make up.

Right let’s end this here (or I will continue to rant about this). See you next Thursday lovelies!

Lots of love

Pri XO
